#CloseTheCamps Action

Move Forward Staten Island joined co-hosts AAANY, Above Ground Railroad Staten Island and Brooklyn, Action Corps, Bay Ridge for Social Justice, Dream Action Coalition, El Centro del Inmigrante, Fight Back Bay Ridge, La Colmena, NY Immigration Coalition, NYS Immigration Action Fund, Peace Action SI, South Brooklyn DSA, South Brooklyn Progressive Resistance, Staten Island Immigrants Council, Staten Island Women Who March, Union of Arab Women, Yalla Brooklyn and Yemini American Merchants Association this past Tuesday, July 2 at Congressman Max Rose’s Brooklyn Office local office in response the heinous conditions children are being forced to live in at our border, after being ripped away from their loved ones.

Move Forward Staten Island will continue to speak out against the unthinkable situation at our borders and ask Representative Rose and his colleagues in Congress to do whatever is in their power to permanently end family detention and separation, ensure all families are reunited, and close the camps.

We are horrified and heartbroken. Mothers, fathers, and loved ones would do anything to keep kids safe, including seeking asylum. Parents and family members have had to make the unfathomable decision to flee their country for safety. Now children and babies:

  • not only are ripped from their loved ones

  • not only are placed in crowded facilities

  • not only are being practically starved

  • not only are living without diapers, soap and other sanitary needs

  • but they are also facing sickness and irreparable emotional damage.

At Move Forward Staten Island, we know that we cannot sit silent and idle while children are being harmed on America’s watch. We call on our Congressman to close the camps and reunite families now and are grateful for his pledge to visit the camps. We urge him to do so as soon as possible.
